As you recall, for the rest of this month and probably into the first week of September, I will be sending out add-ons only and will focus on the Southland. I should be back on track with every-other-week full blogs by the end of the first full week of September as there will be tons of arts and entertainment items to add from around the metro area.
Remember, though, last weekend's blog was packed and anyone searching for something to do should have no difficulty finding an event or exhibit or show.
Please keep sending press info and if you know any theater group or other arts venue or organization not represented here, please e-mail me contact information: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hope you are having a good summer.
MyraCat in the Hat and more
This is the last weekend to catch the Drama Group's dynamite production of "Seussical ... the Musical," at the Studio Theatre, 330 W. 202nd St., Chicago Heights. The often hilarious, sometimes touching and always entertaining production features a phenomenal Horton (Bill Klideris), a terrifically musical Cat in the Hat (Eric S. Walton), a charming Jo-Jo (Charlee Amacher, Shannon Egan) and an absolutely riotous Gertrude McFuzz (Claire Smyth). We were at a full-house dress rehearsal after which the audience stood up in roaring appreciation and delight. Jeannie Rega-Markionni's spot-on direction somehow pulled dozens and dozens of actors, big and little, together for a flawless production.
Diane Principe's creative and colorful costume design absolutely adds to the production's success as does Gil Oliva's set design.
But most of all, the lead characters made me believe in them. Any tickets left for this weekend are at (708) 755-3444. m.e.
Also this weekend only: Beecher Part-Time Players present "Meet Me in St. Louis" and SLATE company's debut production, "Into the Woods," is at GSU. All the details for both shows are in the blog from last weekend.
